Kibbutz Nahal Oz, 6 months since October 7

A heartfelt thank you and update from our community

Dear Friends,

We want to thank you for your support and solidarity with the 450 members – elderly, adults, youth, and children, of our Nahal Oz community, during our most challenging times.

It is with the support of people and partners like yourself that we can meet the ever-growing needs of our community. While we rely on and exhaust governmental and existent resources, your support allows us to be nimble and dynamic in addressing unmet needs in real time.

Since the attack on October 7, we have faced loss, trauma, and struggle, all the while finding compassion, building our resilience, and holding on to a stubborn will to live and rebuild.

Over the past 6 trying months, we have done all we can to move from
Trauma » rehabilitation » post-trauma-rebuilding.

We want to see Omri and Tsachi at home with us in time for Passover, the Jewish holiday that symbolizes liberation and freedom

Emergency resilience

Stood by the families of the 15 beloved members who were murdered and those who were kidnapped, of whom two fathers are held in Gaza.

Emotional resilience

Provided a wide range of post-traumatic treatments and psycho-social support to our members, including therapeutic horseback riding for youth, support for newly enlisted soldiers, and specialized support for our elderly.

Educational resilience

Established a new formal and informal afterschool educational system for our 150 children and youth, ages 0-18, with new kindergarten classes, schools, and extensive afterschool social and educational enrichment for our kids.

Communal resilience

Underwent a supervised community rehabilitation process, elected two new Community Co-Managers, and expanded our communal services to manage the complex task of running a dispersed and post-traumatic community.

Economic resilience

Incrementally, and when the security situation permits us to do so, we are repairing the dairy farm and sawed wheat in our fields, overlooking Gaza.

Our small kibbutz is the closest to the border, overlooking Shuja’iyya in Gaza, and currently serves as a closed-off military base. In parallel to our steps to build resilience, we began our ‘Day-After’ post-trauma-rebuilding plans for our kibbutz.

Please know that your partnership is the wind beneath our wings, and what helped us get through the past six months.

For that, and for much more than words can truly express, THANK YOU.
